Bitesize Weekly News Roundup - 8th - 14th March

Happy Mothers Day for our UK readers! Hope you remembered to send a card... Let's look back on what's been going on in the gaming world this week.

Microsoft's Bethesda Acquisition Finalised

We've known for a while this was happening but now the i's have been dotted and the t's crossed. It was announced this week some future Bethesda titles will now be focused on devices that can access Gamepass but with no further details regarding titles or timed exclusivity. Watch this space I guess? In the meantime, a raft of new titles hit Gamepass including Morrowind, Prey and Doom 64. Fill your boots!

Rust Servers Fire

Large amounts of player data in Rust have been lost after a devastating fire at the OVH Datacenter in Strasbourg. Several EU servers are completely destroyed. Luckily no one was injured in the blaze.

Krieg cast for the Borderlands movie

Florian Munteanu (Viktor Drago in Creed 2) has been cast as Krieg in the upcoming Borderlands movie. He joins a starstudded cast that also features Jack Black and Cate Blanchett. Maybe this movie will buck the trend of video game movies and actually be decent?

Currys stock lottery for PS5s

With scalpers and stock shortages it's been hard going getting a PS5. Currys are now asking potential buyers to sign up with their name, email and telephone number and whether you get the chance to buy the console is completely up to luck. If successful you would then have 72 hours to complete your purchase. It is at least a little more fair, and might curb scalping a little, but we are a long way off the problem being solved.

NBA star faces ban from Twitch for using an antisemitic slur while playing Call of Duty: Warzone

I mean, what did he expect? Miami Heat player Meyers Leonard is currently suspended from the team pending investigation after using a slur - k**e - during a stream. I have to be honest, I'd never even heard of this one before, might be more common in the US. Don't be racist, kids.

EAGate: Employee found to be selling Ultimate Team cards for thousands of euros

Someone at EA did a fucky wucky and has been caught selling Ultimate Team items for FIFA21 for a ridiculous price. Are we even surprised anymore? Fans are upset, claiming these cards being available for purchase upsets the balance of the game.

New Game and DLC Announcements

New Game from Everyone's Gone To The Rapture dev - The Magnificent Trufflepigs

This title will tell the story of Adam who returns to his hometown and meets Beth, who wants to go searching for a local treasure ahead of the deadly serious CEO post she is to take soon. The story is told through the finds you make with your metal detector and conversations with Beth through walkie talkie and instant message. It will be available early Summer. Looking forward to this one, the games may be short but you think about them for a long time afterwards.

Outer Worlds DLC Murder on Eridanos to release next week

This is the second expansion pack for the game focusing on finding famed actress Halycon Helen's killer. It will bring new quests, locations and weapons as well as the choice driven gameplay Obsidian is so famous for. Will you find the killer or accuse an innocent person just to get it over with? Will you try and take responsibility for the murder? This expansion will be available on Wednesday the 17th on all major platforms.

Square Enix to announce new Life is Strange

Squeenix will be debuting the latest instalment in the series at their Spring showcase on Thursday the 18th at 5pm GMT. The 40 minute showcase will also include Outriders, the Tomb Raider 25th anniversary celebrations and Balan Wonderland.

Baobab's Mausoleum: A Country of Woods and Creepy Tales releases this week

The quite frankly bonkers game by European developer Celery Emblem gets a physical release for the Switch next week. There is also a Grindhouse version available with extra little collectables. Baobabs Mausoleum has the honour of being the weirdest game I played in 2019 and comes highly recommended. Available to preorder where games are sold before release on Thursday the 19th.
