Liek dis if u cri evritiem - 5 of the saddest songs in games

Updated: Apr 29

Everyone has that one video game that ruined your day emotionally. Music choice is a big part of conveying these emotions and some games do it beautifully. Here are my top 5 songs that make me cry every time.

To Zanarkand - Nobuo Uematsu

Final Fantasy X

This game was nothing short of a work of art and the ending had me curled up on my teenage bedroom floor sobbing. If you know you know. To Zanarkand is a beautiful piano piece that captures the hope, the resolve, and the grim determination to make the world a better place - no matter the cost - shown in the game.

Obstacles - Syd Matters

Life is Strange

This song plays in the dying moments of the game after you've made a certain choice. It really captures the feeling of doing what must be done but wishing things could be different. Also writing this article without spoilers is... challenging. My heart broke for Max, but in the end there was no other choice.

Once Upon a Time - Toby Fox

Undertale

I know the fandom for this game has gotten a little toxic recently but honestly the game itself is still a work of art. This is another piece that really captures the hopeful nature of this game, that things can get better if you just treat everyone with kindness. Undertale still holds a place in my heart after all this time.

La Vie En Rose - Edith Piaf

Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea

I adored Elizabeth's story in this DLC pack. Elizabeth's wish to go to Paris may not come true, but in the end she did what was right at great cost to herself. She deserved better. Piaf represents everything she lost trading croissants and omniscience for damp and mildew.

I Will Find You - Sóley

The Town of Light

The story of a mentally ill young woman in an asylum in the 40s was never going to be a happy one but Renee suffered so much. The ending was one of the most desolate and depressing things I've ever played. Sóley does an excellent job at capturing the loneliness and longing Renee felt during the game.

Do you agree with my picks? Do you have songs you'd like to add? Leave them in the comments!
